Yorlandy Paz Tellez (El Yoyi) is 22. He doesn’t speak very much.
His instrument is only the Marimbula, a large thumb piano-type box of Bantú (Congolese) origin, used to provide the bass sound in some old forms of Cuban music.
The Marimbula is the main instrument in Changüi, and the music of Madera Limpia. El Yoyi is an autodidact.
How does he see his future? „As a result of the past“.
His major problem: „My life“.
What does he lack in order to be happy? „My mother“. (She died last year of pneumonia)
What is Guantánamo for him? „My own tradition“.
His biggest wish? „To repair my house and to get to have a daughter.“
In 2003 his daughter was born.
